Many of us have spent our adult life avoiding pregnancy. Now, when the time is right for us to try for a baby, why doesn't it happen as soon as we'd like?
Fertell can help you on your way to finding out. The tests have great support from healthcare professionals and consumers alike.
Commenting on the new Fertell Ovarian Reserve test Mr Charles Kingsland, Consultant Gynaecologist at Liverpool Women's Hospital said: "Many women are realising that using Ovarian Reserve Tests, such as Fertell, can help in the first step towards increasing their chances of conception. The device is simple to use, similar to that of a pregnancy test and most importantly, could help lead to early detection and treatment of any potential problems."
The male test has been developed in conjunction with Professor Chris Barratt of the University of Birmingham who comments: "It takes established technology, usually employed in the laboratory, and embodies that know-how into a simple format. All the man has to do is produce a sample, push a button and twist a switch and he will be able to assess that he has enough sperm that can swim to fertilise an egg. He will get the results in about one hour. Fifty per cent of all cases of infertility are due to male factors and this test can indicate early on if there is potentially a problem with the man that indicates the couple should seek advice. This is particularly important given that many couples are choosing to defer childbearing until later in life."
Commenting on the launch of Fertell's fertility tests for couples, Dr Sarah Jarvis, a GP from Shepherds Bush said, 'The launch of Fertell will help streamline the referral process by providing a preliminary option for patients worried about conceiving. Until now, patients have needed to consult their GP in order to be referred for fertility testing - now they can go the pharmacy and use a kit in the privacy of their own home. If couples use Fertell, those who have a favourable result are reassured quickly and this may help in reducing unnecessary referrals.'
One couple who has first hand experience of fertility-related issues is Gabby & Kenny Logan. As Gabby explains: "We'd definitely have used Fertell if it had been around when we were trying. I like the fact that it's a test for both of you, and it gives you answers, at home. It's a great first step that doesn't involve doctors. This test can be reassuring - if everything is OK, then you can feel relaxed about trying for a bit longer, but if it's not, you can go back to your doctor and talk about starting some tests straight away. I think it could also be useful for couples before they even start trying; this kit can let you know if there are any issues involved and whether you'd be better not putting it off at all."
"A test for couples is great as we're sharing the responsibility of creating a baby - we're both part of it" Paul, 32
"If it shows you are normal, then you might relax and let nature take it's course" Lucy, 31
"If I had a problem I'd like to know about it straight away" Nick, 34
"I really like the fact it's aimed at men as well- not just women" Julie, 35
"It would save me from an embarrassing trip to the doctor" James, 37
"If I knew now I would have time to do something about it" Nicole, 34
