1 in 7 couples experience difficulties in getting pregnant. Fertell is the UK's leading fertility test and has been developed as a first step to help you and your partner find out about potential female and male fertility issues earlier, so you can get the help you need sooner. Doctors agree that it is helpful to detect fertility issues at an earlier stage as this greatly increases your chances of getting pregnant.
Fertell is available to purchase as a combined male and female fertility test kit, or as a separate ovarian reserve test, measuring female fertility.
Whether you have been trying for a while or you just want to know, finding out with Fertell means you have more time on your side and a higher chance of a successful pregnancy.
Female fertility
What's the difference between an ovarian reserve test and an ovulation test?
An ovulation test measures a hormone called Luteinising Hormone (LH) which increases when the egg has matured and causes it to be released. This is called ovulation. An ovulation test only shows you the time in your menstrual cycle when you are most likely to conceive, it will not tell you about your fertility or the quality of the egg you produce.
The Fertell female ovarian reserve test detects a different hormone called Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH). Women are born with their quota of eggs. As a woman ages so do her eggs and the quality of those eggs decline. The ovarian reserve test detects when the FSH is at a level that indicates that the egg quality has decreased and the chances of the egg being fertilised are reduced. Fertell is a fertility test for ovarian reserve and gives a measure of underlying fertility through assessing the egg quality.
Why is it important to test my ovarian reserve?
Dr. Charles Kingsland, a leading fertility specialist, gives this analogy of FSH. "Follicle stimulating hormone is a bit like the accelerator on a car: If your car engine is of very high quality, you don't have to press the accelerator very hard to make it go. If your car, however, is older or not such a sporty model then you have to press the accelerator harder for it to work. This is exactly what happens with the ovary. If your ovary contains good quality eggs, your brain recognizes this and it doesn't have to work so hard to drive your ovary to mature and release them, hence the FSH level is low. If, however, your eggs are older or abnormal for any reason, then your brain also recognizes this problem and as a consequence, the FSH level is much higher."
Doctors agree that it is helpful to detect ovarian reserve issues at an earlier stage as this greatly increases your chances of getting pregnant.
Male fertility
More fertility issues are attributed to men than women
Up to 50% of all fertility issues are now attributed to male factors. These normally arise from poor sperm quality.
A key indicator of sperm quality is the concentration of motile sperm (sperm that can swim well). The Fertell male fertility test gives a measure of sperm motility in order to tell you about your sperm quality. This is the first and only test for male fertility that uses the same measures as your doctors use.
- Fertell tells you about your fertility. Ovulation tests tell you about conception timing
- Early detection increases your chances of conception
- Fast, reliable results in the privacy of your home
